Two Hundredth Post

This is where Mason spends the weekends. He walks back and forth, taking his toys (generally one by one) over to the table so that he can play with them up high. I thought we had that table for the lamp. Guess I was wrong!!

Weekend of Firsts

Chris was working on Saturday, so Mason and I drove out to Stapleton for his very first play date. My friend, Katie, has a son, Sullivan, who is about 6 weeks older than Mason. Sullivan has a big brother, Theo, who is 3 now, and so this was a play date just for Sully, someone is own size and speed.
Too bad Mason took a giant digger on his way to the sandbox and came back with his very first goose egg. Poor kid! It was one of those moments, where you feel like you are running with concrete boots on . . . I just felt like I was moving so slowly as I watched him land face first. And when I scooped him up in my arms, he was silent. That cry that you know when noise finally comes out their mouth, it's going to be almost deafening. Yup, that was the noise.
The pediatrician ok'd peanut butter at Mason's 1 year check, but I have been avoiding it like the plague. But, I bit the bullet at lunch and gave him about a teaspoon full to try. His eye brows raised up and he pointed to the spoon as if to ask for more. As much as he liked it, I think we'll introduce it slowly, over time. I feel so bad for those kids that can't enjoy one of life's simple treasures - a home made peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Life for them seems so unfair!

Happy Halloween

Chris really really wants to take Mason trick or treating this year. It has absolutely nothing to do with showing off his son and absolutely everything to do with chocolate! I am fairly sure I've talked him out of it, but I suppose if I see them sneaking off in a Pooh costume and a spare pillow case, I know where they are headed.

Halloween just isn't my deal. It's funny too, cause for my bff, it's like her Christmas, and you'd think that after 25+ years of being friends, at least some of the cobwebs would have rubbed off on me, but no such luck. I do enjoy handing out candy to the little kids - 2 and 3 and 4, and asking what their costumes are of. So, maybe next year we can take Mason out. But, this year, I think we'll just stick around the house.

Just Venting

I know that this blog is supposed to be about Mason. But, I really just need to get a few things off my chest, so feel free to ignore this one. There aren't any pictures of my beautiful son and there aren't any milestones or funny stories. There is just me, working mom me, who is having a pity party for herself. I want another baby. BADLY! I can hear my biological clock ticking away so loudly in my ears that sometimes I wonder if I will go deaf.

I don't know who this person is - I never wanted kids. Never ever. And now I want a second one so badly that I ache from want. Whenever I hear about someone who is pregnant, or having a baby, or just had a baby, I do my best to politely congratulate them, even though all I am is jealous. I want another chance at pregnancy without the scary part of it that sometimes kept me from just enjoying it. I want another chance at newborn smells and sounds and cuddles. I want another baby. I want Mason to have a sibling, to grow up with and bond with and share life's adventures with.

But, my husband is not 100% on board with my wants. And, honestly, we really can't afford it right now. We worked really really hard to pay off all of our credit card debt (still debt free, thank you very much) to have the wiggle room to add a daycare expense to things. But, we still have car loans that really keep a second baby just out of my grasp. I have a timeline in my head, that has me getting pregnant this time next year, but since it isn't today, it seems like an eternity away. Nothing like instant gratification, huh?!?!

I hate that I have to work and take Mason to daycare. Sure, she's a nice lady, and he has a good time there (and it helps that he's head over heels for her 14 year old daughter), but, still - I am here and he is there. And I am paying her to raise my son. And that just plain sucks. Sucks big time. Do I wish Chris made more money? Of course I do. All of us who want to stay home wish our spouses were millionaires. But, that isn't my reality.

Please don't get me wrong, I love Mason with my every being and am so very thankful that God blessed us with him. We are all healthy, and happy and strong, and both have jobs in this crappy economy. We have a great house and even a little money in the bank for retirement. Yes, fine, I am thankful for all of that. But, it's hard to be thankful when you don't have all that your heart desires. And my heart desires one more baby.

Watch Out World - He's a Walker

Mason is officially a walking boy. He doesn't need to hold onto the coffee table, or couch, or even his mother to get around anymore. He just walks where ever his little heart desires. He's pretty good about sitting back down, except when he falls, he falls on his head, almost on purpose. It's pretty funny to watch. It won't be long now before he's asking for the car keys. Heaven help me!

The Boy LOVES Raspberries

We have raspberries in the back yard that flower and fruit in the late summer. They are all right next to the bbq, and so when Chris is out there making dinner, he picks and brings in Tupperware containers full. Mason can not get enough! He has them in his yogurt, with his cereal and sometimes by the plain old handful. I'm not sure what he'll do once fall arrives and kills them all. But I know it won't be good, that's for sure! Guess I better get some bags of them frozen before they are gone.

Pumpkin Patch

After a lazy morning spent in our pj's and a long nap for Mason, we headed out to Four Mile Park for the Pumpkin Festival that my friend Katie mentioned. Mason is going to one in a few weeks with the kids from daycare, but I wanted his first experience to be with us. So off we went. I think dad and I ate from one end of things to the other. They had Indian Fry Bread (though not nearly as good as the stuff in Montana) and some apple cider donuts and even some real cider. Mason hasn't had juice yet, but I let him have a few sips of my cider. Man, I thought he was going to crawl right in the cup - he had his entire head in there!! I guess he liked it! We saw big horses and ladies in fancy old dresses and some really neat stuff. We didn't leave with any pumpkins. It was 75 degrees today. Just not pumpkin weather in my opinion. Maybe when he goes in a few weeks it will have cooled down some.
