Mason's Not So Into The Cereal Idea

We tried rice cereal once more, but as you can see, Mason's not terribly interested in it. I still think he's too young. So, we put the boxes away for another time.

Chris is Heading Back to Work

Chris' boss, Jeff, called on Friday and said that Chris should plan to head back to work on February 16th, which is about 2 weeks earlier than I think either of us thought he'd go back. He has to start back by March 1st, and I think we both assumed he'd be off until then. I am not ready to pack Mason up in the morning and take him to daycare. So, this weekend, we took 2 naps together and did a lot of lounging around and cuddling. I hope that at the end of the day, when I stop to pick him up, he still remembers who I am!! I keep telling myself that it's good for Mason, and good for us. Maybe by the time he's in kindergarten, I'll believe it?!?!

Mason LOVES the Bath

Oh my gosh, I can't even tell you how much Mason loves his bath at night. He lays in the water and splishes and splashes and throws water everywhere! He has even gotten it up and over the side of the tub he splashes so much!! I am a Pisces and so it's only natural that my son should love water. We will start a "mom and me" swim class in March sometime (he has to be 6 months old) and I can't wait! I wonder what he'll think of the pool??

Four Months Old Today

Just a short little note to wish my sweet baby boy a happy 4 month birthday. He seems to have recovered ok from the shots on Monday. He was up a lot last night, which is very unusual for him and Mom is tired and ready for bed.

Happy birthday my son.

Cereal = FAIL

Mason wasn't having it tonight. He seemed pretty interested in the high chair and all of the goodies piled on top of it. But, when it came down to having some cereal, he just wasn't quite ready. From what I've read, if he spits it back out, then he's not ready, and believe me, he spit it back out just fine! I think he was a little confused since it tasted like formula, but there was something new and different about it all. We'll try it again later this week and see what happens.

Four Month Shots

We took Mason to the pediatrician today for his 4 month check up and shots. And yes, that is my beautiful baby with three, count them one, two, three crayon band aids on his poor little legs! He got 3 shots this time and had to drink some horrible concoction. Again, I think he took them better than I did, but we were both crying when it was done.

Mason was 14 pounds 6 ounces, which put him in the 50th percentile for weight (same as last time) and he was 24 1/4 inches tall, which put him in the 25th percentile for height (also the same as last time). She said he was growing beautifully! She also assured me that he will have blue (or at least light) eyes and not my boring brown. Since Chris' are green, I think he'll be checking out the milkman a little closer the next time.

We were given the green light to start on solids, so we stopped and got rice cereal and oatmeal cereal, just to see what Mason prefers. Chris brought his highchair up from the basement and I wiped it all down. We'll give him one or the other tonight, maybe while we eat dinner. He doesn't show much interest in what's going on at the kitchen table, but he's also in his bouncy seat on the floor while we eat. Maybe bringing him up to our level will peak his curiosity.

It's Been A While

I have found the balance of work and Mason a little more difficult since the holidays ended. Maybe it was the short days and the cheerful mood around my office that just made it all flow a little easier. But, it's been hard going back to work and getting into the swing of things. I struggle to find time for Mason, Chris, my poor dog who feels completely dejected, and myself. I was just telling Chris I haven't had a hair cut since before Mason was born. I had no intention of letting it grow long again. But, it just seems to keep getting put on the back burner. And can you believe, I am already trying to talk Chris into a second baby?!?! I must be completely insane!
On a personal note, I wonder how long I'll last in this field of work. When ever I have clients who are behaving badly in a divorce, I remind them about their children, and how they are suffering. I say "do what is in your child's best interest", a phrase I am so used to rattling off, that now has so much more meaning to it. Last week was particularly difficult. I found myself fitting for a client to get more visitation with his son, even though he's the one choosing to move out of State. And the entire time I am fight for him, I know, way back in my mind, that the phone calls will become less and less and the summer visits shorter and shorter and the care packages lighter and lighter until it all stops. Because, in all honesty, our client is a crappy dad who has already lost his child because of his own selfish actions and who is only fighting to fight the fight. Those are the days I hate my job. I came home and hugged Chris, and Mason, and told him that if we ever decided to call it quits, I wouldn't settle for him having anything less than 50% of the time with Mason. Not 1 single day less.
