Eight Weeks Today

It's hard to believe I am already 8 weeks into this process. Two months! WOW!! I still don't have any symptoms that say I am pregnant. I lost a decent amount of weight from being sick, so my clothes are still fitting fine. I'm tired, but I think that's mostly just from being so sick.

I've been reading my "what to expect" book, and it says this:

How's your baby measuring up this week? At a length of about half an inch right now, your baby has graduated from blueberry-sized to raspberry-sized. But weekly growth is getting a bit hard to estimate, and here's why: Growth occurs at about the rate of one millimeter each day, but that growth isn't necessarily just in height. Spurts can occur in the arms, legs, back, and other parts of your baby's body. So, big changes will be occurring every which way in the coming months. What else is changing at 8 weeks pregnant? A close-up view of your little embryo (say cheese!) would reveal a more baby-like appearance (and thankfully, a less reptilian one). You'd see an upper lip forming, the protruding tip of that cute button nose, and tiny (and very thin) eyelids. And check out those hands and feet! Your baby's webbed fingers and toes are differentiating now, so give your baby a round of applause. All this growing is exciting for your baby too. How do you know? His or her heart is beating at the incredible rate of 150 times per minute. (That's twice as fast as your heart beats.) Your baby's digs are growing, too. Amniotic fluid increases at a rate of about two tablespoons per week to accommodate your womb's growing tenant.

Our first OB appointment is February 13th, and they tell me that they will do an ultrasound. I am excited to see the baby, and hopefully even hear a heartbeat. Since I really don't feel pregnant, honestly, I don't feel like this has totally sunk in. Maybe if I threw up I'd feel more like an expectant mom?!? I mean, I've taken 4 pregnancy tests, and they all say positive, but I just don't feel it. So, I am anxiously awaiting the appointment. Chris' boss has been really supportive, and is letting him skip out of work a little early to come to this first appointment with me.

Bad To Worse

My sickness seems to have gone from bad to worse. I worked all last week, and tried to relax on the weekend. I hadn't been to the grocery store in a week or more, and really hadn't eaten much either. Sunday night was a really bad night for me, and I pretty much broke down and had a temper tantrum for lack of a better explanation. I was just SO SICK of being SO SICK! I cried, which made me cough more which made me throw up more. Lovely, I know. Chris just rubbed my back and told me it was ok, which I so needed.

Anyway, Sunday night - Monday morning I woke up and was coughing up blood. I waited til 6, woke Chris up to send him to work and called in sick. I took myself to the local urgent care center and she said it was bronchitis (sp?) and sent me home with antibiotics. I've lost 6 pounds in a week and a half and really just feel like death warmed over. I took it easy yesterday, even made dinner for the first time in a week or more, and went to bed early.

I woke up this morning, still coughing up blood, so I called in sick and went back to bed. I just woke up, and it's noon, so I am going to guess that I was really really tired, and needed that. I need to save my time off for when the baby comes, but at this rate, I worry about the baby given my health. So, I am just trying to take it easy.

Sick and Pregnant Sucks

I have a horrible horrible horrible cold. Horrible.

I started to feel it coming on this weekend, and by Sunday night I could barely breath and when I really coughed, it was so hard to catch my breath, it actually scared me. I called my mom, thinking she would be coming off her shift at the hospital, and of course scared her half to death. She gave me a few tips on what to take to get me though the night. I can't say I've ever been to Walgreens, in my pj's before, but at 11 at night, I really could have cared less who saw me. Monday morning I texted Chris to get me an appointment with my doctor, which he did. She said I had literally no oxygen getting into my lungs, and so she gave me a breathing treatment in the office, which helped. She also sent me home with a prescription for an inhaler. And, she did a culture for Whopping Cough. She said that if it's positive, the results will be ready in 48 hours. Which is this afternoon. If it's positive, I'll have to start taking antibiotics.

And, now Chris is home today, feeling as under the weather as I've been. I feel horrible for sharing this with him - it's been seriously no fun! My doctor is maybe a little more liberal with letting me take some stuff for the symptoms than other doctors would have been, and I seriously love her for that! Pregnant or not, there's no way I could have gotten through this without some pharmaceutical help!!

Pregnant

Yes, it's official. We're PREGNANT!!

Friday night, the 9th, I had a dream that I was at a hospital, and they were running all kinds of tests and the doctor came in and said that they could not give me some drug because I was pregnant. So Saturday morning when I woke up, and remembered my dream, I took my last dollar tree pregnancy test. I set the test on the back of the toilet and closed the door. Chris was in the office, so I stuck my head around the corner and told him to come and look. We agreed that there were in fact 2 lines, even though the second one was pretty faint. But, he wasn't totally convinced and asked me to go buy a digital test. Which I did.

Sunday morning, same routine. I got up, took the test and closed the door so we could look at it together. And there it was "pregnant" on the screen. I don't suppose there is any arguing when it comes to a digital test.
At first, we weren't going to tell anyone. Then it was ok to tell our parents and our bff's. We called Donna who, luckily was not driving because I think she'd of caused a car accident! And we called Janelle, and my parents.

On Monday Chris told his job, and I told Angela. When I came home on Monday, Chris had a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a very sweet card on the table which made me cry, and made me feel better all at the same time.

Friday we went to see Tamara, who confirmed the pregnancy and set my due date for September 13th. My parents wedding anniversary is September 13th, so I think that would be a fun date to have the baby. I've found a new OB's office, which is attached to the hospital I'd like to deliver at. My first appointment is February 13th (right before Valentines Day) and she says that they will give me an ultrasound to date the pregnancy and it will be our first glimpse at the baby. Chris's job is being very supportive and his boss has already given him the ok to miss some work and come to the appointment with me.

So far, I really don't feel any symptoms. But, I am only 6 weeks along, and I am sure someday soon I will be wishing the morning sickness would go away. So, for now, I am going to enjoy the calm before the storm.

We are excited about this next chapter in our lives, though a little surprised it didn't take very long. I think I was more shocked than Chris when that 2nd line appeared, but we are strong in our commitment to each other and we know we'll get through this leaning on each other and our family and friends.

We're Back

Chris and I landed safely late on Saturday night. The flight home was much more bumpy than the flight going. I even had a glass of wine on the way back to calm my nerves.

We had an amazing time in Phoenix, and as always, seemed to have so much more we wanted to do, and people we wanted to see, when we finally had to leave. Tuesday night we went to Popo's for dinner. Yummo!! I could eat there once a week, if not more. We got to tell Donna, and Janelle, and Uncle Dave and Aunt LeAnn about our ttc. Donna was quite shocked, and the look on her face was worth the plane ride! She's SO excited about the prospect of a grandchild. Of course, the topic came up a few more times while we were there. I told her that when I delivered, we would want her to come and stay with us for a few weeks, to help out and visit and see her first grandchild. I hope that she can. I know that money is tight and I don't think she has vacation time. Hopefully we will have good news for her, and all of the family, soon.

Supposedly, my aunt flo should be here this week. She used to arrive on Tuesdays, but we shall see. I don't have any of my usual once a month food cravings, but I don't feel pregnant either.

Santa brought me two books. One is called What To Expect When You're Expecting, that I've started to read. Angela warned me a little about that one, and said it can certainly scare you, with their honesty, so to take it easy. The other is called BabyProofing Your Marriage, that my parents got us that's helpful, but funny too.

We are painting the bedroom this week. We got the darker accent wall done today. I am thinking maybe Chris' swimmers need a change of scenery and this will help. If not, well, our room will look awesome, so who cares.

Blink Blink it's 2:30 AM

And, the worse part is that I've been up since 1:30. I didn't sleep very well last night, but I think it's safe to say it was better than I expected. We are having dinner tonight at Popo's in Phoenix, and we'll get to tell Chris' mom, and his sister, and his aunt and uncle, our news about ttc. So, that will be fun. We don't want to take away from the Christmas celebrations and what that is all about, so we are telling them today, and hoping they keep our secret til we've gone. Or at least until Friday when we're done with all of the Christmas parties, and even a birthday celebration for Uncle Dave. I can't wait to see the look on Donna's face! We likely won't get to tell either set of parents when we finally do conceive, in person, so this may be my only chance to see a reaction vs on the phone.

Now, where did I put that Zanex?
